(By Monalisa, an EOS GrammarFix student)
People mostly start learning English and its grammar from the moment they started elementary school. I began learning English when I was in elementary school too. I was learning English since my elementary school started until my high school ended. I’ve never missed an English class, but I did not know why my English has never been that good enough, especially for the grammar part.
My Past in the University
I took Chinese Literature major in university but I had to take the English subject for 1 year (2 semesters). At the time, I was serious when I joined the class; I was hoping that I could really understand English at that time. I got an A in my 1st semester but unfortunately, in my 2nd semester, I passed the class with the minimum grade (B-). Consequently, my scholarship was stopped. I was so sad but I could do nothing.
A Chinese proverb says “君子报仇,十年不晚” (it’s never too late for a gentleman to take his revenge). When COVID-19 started roaming in Indonesia, I saw Engliven’s GrammarFix brochure. I have been following Engliven since I was in University but I never considered taking any class. I enjoyed Engliven’s Instagram content, but I never took any steps. Long story short, I decided to push my luck by joining the class. This is my way to adapt to the new normal.
My Woes in Learning the English Grammar
To be honest, it feels a little awkward for me to learn English again after I graduated from university, and it broke my heart because it always reminds me that I am a loser. It took some time to make sure that I am not too late to “take my revenge”. It was hard to start. “Should I take the class” question always came to my mind because I thought I could still use English in life so I did not know if it is important to fix my grammar.
However, after I read Engliven’s blog, I was inspired by the quote “Grammar is like our personal hygiene.” I knew that I got the answer; people might understand what I say even if I do not use the correct grammar. However, I have to be excellent. Therefore, I took the EOS GrammarFix class.
My Experience in Learning Grammar with Engliven
I really enjoy learning with Engliven. I can see how Engliven is serious in making the materials. The presentation is always well prepared from the colors, exercises, animations, perspectives, etc. Even when we are using Zoom, there was not any unstable connection condition.
I love the way the teacher delivers the materials and her pronunciation. It is really clear and easy to understand. I always “disturb” Engliven’s teacher whenever I do not understand the grammar or maybe consult about taking another English class. Sometimes, Engliven prepares an English game. I do enjoy every single lesson.
Where I Am Now and My Grammar Skills
I just finished my 10th session, where I have learned all the basic grammar. Right now, I am still making some mistakes but I believe the mistakes that I make have decreased enough. Thanks to Engliven for helping me to improve and learn from so many flaws and particularly for challenging me to write this blog. I was so lazy but I know it is a part of learning. I have reviewed the first session material until the last session material. It is boring, but right now, I feel grateful. I have finally taken my revenge.
P.S: If you read this blog and you are an Engliven student, please do not miss any challenge from them. Just accept the challenge and you are going to be a better version of you.
Now then, have you been entertained with the story of one of Engliven’s own students? Engliven also has other blog articles that you can read as well for your English learning experience. Happy reading!
